Friday Prayers

Morning

Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!

Revelation 4:8

O Lord, open our lips;
And our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

Psalm 42

1 As the deer desires the water brooks, * so longs my soul for you, O God.

2 My soul is athirst for God, even for the living God; * when shall I come to appear before the presence of God?

3 My tears have been my food day and night, * while all day long they say to me, "Where now is your God?"

4 When I think upon these things, I pour out my heart, * when I remember how I went with the multitude, and brought them into the house of God,

5 With the voice of praise and thanksgiving * among those who keep holy day.

6 Why are you so full of heaviness, O my soul, * and why are you so disquieted within me?

7 O put your trust in God, * for I will yet give him thanks, who is the help of my countenance, and my God.

8 My soul is heavy within me; * therefore I will remember you from the land of Jordan, and from Mizar among the hills of Hermon.

9 One deep calls to another in the noise of your waterfalls; * all your waves and storms have gone over me.

10 The Lord will grant his loving-kindness in the daytime; * and in the night season will I sing of him, and make my prayer to the God of my life.

11 I will say to God my rock, "Why have you forgotten me? * Why am I full of heaviness, while the enemy oppresses me?"

12 My bones are broken asunder, * while my enemies mock me to my face,

13 While all day long they say to me, * "Where now is your God?"

14 Why are you so full of heaviness, O my soul, * and why are you so disquieted within me?

15 O put your trust in God, * for I will yet give him thanks, who is the help of my countenance, and my God.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; * as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

A Scripture Reading

The Word of the Lord.
     Thanks be to God.

Jubilate

O be joyful in the Lord, all you lands; * serve the Lord with gladness, and come before his presence with a song.

Be assured that the Lord, he is God; * it is he that has made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

O go your way into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise; * be thankful unto him, and speak good of his Name.

For the Lord is gracious, his mercy is everlasting, * and his truth endures from generation to generation.

Psalm 100

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Collect

Almighty God, whose most dear Son went not up to joy but first he suffered pain, and entered not into glory before he was crucified: Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the Cross, may find it none other than the way of life and peace; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord. Amen.

Personal Prayer

Here you may include your petitions, supplications, intercessions, and thanksgivings (1 Timothy 2:1). Pray for the world, the nation, the local community, the church, your neighbors, those who suffer, and those in any trouble.

Let us bless the Lord.
     Thanks be to God.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore. Amen.

2 Corinthians 13:14

Midday

If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.

2 Corinthians 5:17-18

O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.

Psalm 127

1 Unless the Lord builds the house, * their labor is in vain who build it.

2 Unless the Lord keeps the city, * the watchman keeps vigil in vain.

3 It is in vain that you rise up early, and take rest so late, and eat the bread of toil, * for he gives to his beloved sleep.

4 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, * and the fruit of the womb is a gift that comes from him.

5 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, * so are the children of one’s youth.

6 Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; * he shall not be ashamed when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; * as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Ecce, Deus

Surely, it is God who saves me; * I will trust in him and not be afraid.

For the Lord is my stronghold and my sure defense, * and he will be my Savior.

Therefore you shall draw water with rejoicing * from the springs of salvation.

And on that day you shall say, * Give thanks to the Lord and call upon his Name;

Make his deeds known among the peoples; * see that they remember that his Name is exalted.

Sing the praises of the Lord, for he has done great things, * and this is known in all the world.

Cry aloud, inhabitants of Zion, ring out your joy, * for the great one in the midst of you is the Holy One of Israel.

Isaiah 12:2-6

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Collect

O God, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth, and sent your blessed Son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near: Grant that people everywhere may seek after you and find you; bring the nations into your fold; pour out your Spirit upon all flesh; and hasten the coming of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

May the God of hope fill us with all joy and peace in believing through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Romans 15:13

Evening

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 1:8-9

O Lord, open our lips;
And our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

Psalm 51

1 Have mercy upon me, O God, in your great goodness; * according to the multitude of your mercies wipe away my offences.

2 Wash me thoroughly from my wickedness * and cleanse me from my sin.

3 For I acknowledge my faults, * and my sin is ever before me.

4 Against you only have I sinned, and done this evil in your sight, * so that you are justified in your sentence, and blameless in your judgment.

5 Behold, I was brought forth in wickedness, * and in sin my mother conceived me.

6 But behold, you desire truth in the inward parts * and shall make me understand wisdom secretly.

7 You shall purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; * you shall wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

8 You shall make me hear of joy and gladness, * that the bones which you have broken may rejoice.

9 Turn your face from my sins, * and blot out all my misdeeds.

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, * and renew a right spirit within me.

11 Cast me not away from your presence, * and take not your holy Spirit from me.

12 O give me the comfort of your help again, * and sustain me with your willing Spirit.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; * as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Phos Hilaron

O gladsome light, pure brightness of the everliving Father in heaven, * O Jesus Christ, holy and blessed!

Now as we come to the setting of the sun, and our eyes behold the vesper light, * we sing your praises, O God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

You are worthy at all times to be praised by happy voices, * O Son of God, O Giver of Life, and to be glorified through all the worlds.

Amen.

Collect

Lord Jesus Christ, by your death you took away the sting of death: Grant to us your servants so to follow in faith where you have led the way, that we may at length fall asleep peacefully in you and wake up in your likeness; for your tender mercies’ sake. Amen.

Personal Prayer

Here you may include your petitions, supplications, intercessions, and thanksgivings (1 Timothy 2:1). Pray for the world, the nation, the local community, the church, your neighbors, those who suffer, and those in any trouble.

Let us bless the Lord.

Glory to God whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine: Glory to him from generation to generation in the Church, and in Christ Jesus for ever and ever. Amen.

Ephesians 3:20-21

Compline

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy dwelling place of the Most High.

Psalm 46:4

The Lord Almighty grant us a peaceful night and a perfect end.
     Amen.
Our help is in the Name of the Lord;
The maker of heaven and earth.

Psalm 37

1 Fret not yourself because of the ungodly, * neither be envious of those who are evildoers.

2 For they shall soon be dried up like the grass, * and be withered even as the green herb.

3 Put your trust in the Lord, and do good; * dwell in the land, and surely you shall be fed.

4 Delight yourself in the Lord, * and he shall give you your heart's desire.

5 Commit your way unto the Lord and put your trust in him, * and he shall bring it to pass.

6 He shall make your righteousness as clear as the light * and your just dealing as the noonday.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; * as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Nunc Dimittis

Lord, now let your servant depart in peace, * according to your word.

For my eyes have seen your salvation, * which you have prepared before the face of all people;

To be a light to lighten the Gentiles, * and to be the glory of your people Israel.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; * as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen
