Thursday Prayers

Morning

O send out your light and your truth, that they may lead me, and bring me to your holy hill, and to your dwelling.

Psalm 43:3

O Lord, open our lips;
     And our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

Psalm 63

1 O God, you are my God; * early will I seek you.

2 My soul thirsts for you, my flesh also longs after you, * in a barren and dry land where there is no water.

3 Thus I have looked upon you in your holy place, * that I might behold your power and glory.

4 For your loving-kindness is better than life itself; * my lips shall praise you.

5 As long as I live I will magnify you, * and lift up my hands in your Name.

6 My soul shall be satisfied, as with marrow and fatness, * when my mouth praises you with joyful lips.

7 When I remember you on my bed, * I meditate on you in the watches of the night.

8 Because you have been my helper, * therefore under the shadow of your wings I will rejoice.

9 My soul clings to you; * your right hand has upheld me.

10 Those who seek to destroy my life * shall go down into the earth.

11 Let them fall upon the edge of the sword, * that they may be a portion for jackals.

12 But the King shall rejoice in God; all those who swear by him shall be commended, * for the mouth of those who speak lies shall be stopped.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; * as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Venite

O come, let us sing unto the Lord; * let us heartily rejoice in the strength of our salvation.

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving * and show ourselves glad in him with psalms.

For the Lord is a great God * and a great King above all gods.

In his hand are all the depths of the earth, * and the heights of the hills are his also.

The sea is his, for he made it, * and his hands prepared the dry land.

O come, let us worship and fall down, * and kneel before the Lord our Maker.

For he is our God, * and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.

Psalm 95:1-7

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Collect

Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our being: We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget you, but may remember that we are ever walking in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Personal Prayer

Here you may include your petitions, supplications, intercessions, and thanksgivings (1 Timothy 2:1). Pray for the world, the nation, the local community, the church, your neighbors, those who suffer, and those in any trouble.

Let us bless the Lord.
     Thanks be to God.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore. Amen.

2 Corinthians 13:14

Midday

Jesus said, "Now is the judgment of this world; now will the ruler of this world be cast out. And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself."

John 12:31-32

O God, make speed to save us.
     O Lord, make haste to help us.

Psalm 46

1 God is our refuge and strength, * a very present help in trouble.

2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth be moved, * and though the hills be carried into the midst of the sea;

3 Though its waters rage and swell, * and though the mountains shake at its tempest.

4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, * the holy dwelling place of the Most High.

5 God is in the midst of her; therefore she shall not be moved. * God shall help her at the break of day.

6 The nations are in an uproar, and the kingdoms are moved, * but God has lifted his voice, and the earth shall melt away.

7 The Lord of hosts is with us; * the God of Jacob is our refuge.

8 O come and behold the works of the Lord, * what devastations he has brought upon the earth.

9 He makes wars to cease in all the world; * he breaks the bow, and shatters the spear, and burns the chariots in the fire.

10 "Be still then and know that I am God; * I will be exalted among the nations, and I will be exalted in the earth."

11 The Lord of hosts is with us; * the God of Jacob is our refuge.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; * as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Quaerite Dominum

Seek the Lord while he wills to be found; * call upon him when he draws near.

Let the wicked forsake their ways * and the evil ones their thoughts;

And let them turn to the Lord, and he will have compassion, * and to our God, for he will richly pardon.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, * nor your ways my ways, says the Lord.

For as the heavens are higher than the earth, * so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

For as rain and snow fall from the heavens * and return not again, but water the earth,

Bringing forth life and giving growth, * seed for sowing and bread for eating,

So is my word that goes forth from my mouth; * it will not return to me empty;

But it will accomplish that which I have purposed, * and prosper in that for which I sent it.

Isaiah 55:6-11

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Collect

Pour your grace into our hearts, O Lord, that we who have known the incarnation of your Son Jesus Christ, announced by an angel to the Virgin Mary, may by his Cross and passion be brought to the glory of his resurrection; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

May the God of hope fill us with all joy and peace in believing through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Romans 15:13

Evening

I will thank the Lord for giving me counsel; my heart also chastens me in the night season. I have set the Lord always before me; he is at my right hand, therefore I shall not fall.

Psalm 16:8-9

O Lord, open our lips;
     And our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

Psalm 8

1 O Lord our Governor, how excellent is your Name in all the world; * you have set your glory above the heavens!

2 Out of the mouth of babes and infants you have ordained strength, because of your enemies, * that you might still the enemy and the avenger.

3 When I consider your heavens, even the works of your fingers, * the moon and the stars, which you have ordained,

4 What is man, that you are mindful of him, * the son of man, that you visit him?

5 You made him little lower than the angels, * to crown him with glory and honor.

6 You made him to have dominion over the works of your hands, * and you have put all things in subjection under his feet:

7 All sheep and oxen, * even the beasts of the field,

8 The birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, * and whatsoever walks through the paths of the seas.

9 O Lord our Governor, * how excellent is your Name in all the world!

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; * as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Magnificat

My soul magnifies the Lord, * and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior;

For he has regarded * the lowliness of his handmaiden.

For behold, from now on, * all generations will call me blessed;

For he that is mighty has magnified me, * and holy is his Name.

And his mercy is on those who fear him, * throughout all generations.

He has shown the strength of his arm; * he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.

He has brought down the mighty from their thrones, * and has exalted the humble and meek.

He has filled the hungry with good things, * and the rich he has sent empty away.

He, remembering his mercy, has helped his servant Israel, * as he promised to our fathers, Abraham and his seed for ever.

Luke 1:46-55

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Collect

Lord Jesus, stay with us, for evening is at hand and the day is past; be our companion in the way, kindle our hearts, and awaken hope, that we may know you as you are revealed in Scripture and the breaking of bread. Grant this for the sake of your love. Amen.

Personal Prayer

Here you may include your petitions, supplications, intercessions, and thanksgivings (1 Timothy 2:1). Pray for the world, the nation, the local community, the church, your neighbors, those who suffer, and those in any trouble.

Let us bless the Lord.

Glory to God whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine: Glory to him from generation to generation in the Church, and in Christ Jesus for ever and ever. Amen.

Ephesians 3:20-21

Compline

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith.

1 Peter 5:8‑9

The Lord Almighty grant us a peaceful night and a perfect end.
     Amen.
Our help is in the Name of the Lord;
     The maker of heaven and earth.

Psalm 13

1 How long will you utterly forget me, O Lord? * How long will you hide your face from me?

2 How long shall I seek counsel in my soul and be so vexed in my heart? * How long shall my enemy triumph over me?

3 Consider and hear me, O Lord my God; * give light to my eyes, that I sleep not in death,

4 Lest my enemy say, "I have prevailed against him"; * for if I am cast down, those who trouble me will rejoice.

5 But my trust is in your mercy, * and my heart is joyful in your salvation.

6 I will sing of the Lord, because he has dealt so lovingly with me; * indeed, I will praise the Name of the Lord Most High.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; * as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

O Lord, support us all the day long through this trouble-filled life, until the shadows lengthen, and the evening comes, and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of life is over, and our work is done. Then in your mercy grant us a safe lodging, and a holy rest, and peace at the last. Amen.

Nunc Dimittis

Lord, now let your servant depart in peace, * according to your word.

For my eyes have seen your salvation, * which you have prepared before the face of all people;

To be a light to lighten the Gentiles, * and to be the glory of your people Israel.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; * as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen
