Travel, Study, Celebration
Dear Friends,
I want to thank you for the support and kindness you have shown to Fran and me over the years. If you remember back in June, when the church celebrated our 25th anniversary, we filled the sanctuary with one combined worship service. Our senior warden, Mike Lister, made an announcement and presented a wonderful gift to Fran and me. He presented us with a trip to Greece and Turkey to follow in the footsteps of the Apostle Paul. (This tour is similar to the one we will be on.)
Fran and I have wanted to do this trip for quite some time. We booked it as soon as we could, and we leave on Friday of this week for the journey. I will treat this time away as a time of rest and refreshment, learning and study, and joy and celebration for what God has allowed us to witness here at Christ Church. I am sure I will be able to love more dearly the Scriptures of the New Testament after an experience like this. I know that happened to me when I went to the Holy Land the first time in 1994. Please know that we will carry this church in our hearts and prayers, and we ask you to do the same for us as we go on our way.
By the way, if you are interested in a trip to the Holy Land, we still have room on the one that is currently being planned for January 2012. Fran and I will lead it and we would love for you to come along. We already have 24 people signed up. For more information, please click here.
Bishop Julian Dobbs to Visit
While I am away, you will be in great hands on Sunday morning with Fr. Clint Kerley and Fr. Jason Bowman in the pulpit. (Not at the same time!) But also, I ask you to please warmly welcome our guest preacher, Bishop Julian Dobbs, a personal friend of mine and a colleague in the new Anglican Church in North America. He will be a blessing to you when he preaches here on Sunday, October 16.
Funnest!
This past Friday night our GAP45 group (4th and 5thgraders) descended on the Main Event in Frisco. There were 36 kids there…up from about 10 last year!
They bowled, defied gravity on the ropes course, and devoured over a dozen pizzas! Great friendships have already been forged among the students and many are bringing their friends from school and their neighborhood to join them. One of our students said to a parent recently, “GAP45 is the funnest I’ve ever been!”
Roof Dog Run in the News
Last month, our 6th Annual Roof Dog Run was a great success, raising over $42,000 for the orphanage we support in Peru. Our friends at Plano Profile magazine sent a photo journalist to cover the run, and now it is featured in the current October issue of the Plano Profile magazine. Click this link and scroll to p. 26 to see our Roof Dog Run piece. (You may notice that Steve Stoler is erroneously captioned as “Fox 4″…though not our fault. He is actually with WFAA Channel 8.) There are 23 more great photos here.
In Christ,
David+

I pray that God will reveal new truths to you and Fran as you follow the footsteps of Paul.
What an awesome opportunity to grow in faith through this experience. We look forward to hearing all about it when you get back. Take lots of pictures!
