Preschool & Elementary

In Mark’s gospel, a group of parents brought their children to see Jesus. Rather than send them away, Jesus took the children in his arms and blessed them. This is the model of ministry we follow at Christ Church: We partner with parents to bring children to know Jesus, a Savior who wants to love and bless them throughout their lives.
We have a two-fold focus: to provide children with age-appropriate encounters with Jesus Christ through worship, Bible study and opportunities to serve others. Secondly, we encourage parents in their role as the primary teachers and spiritual guides in the lives of their children.
Sunday School
Sunday 9:15 & 11 a.m. | Archgate Center
Sunday School is the focal point of Children’s Ministry. Children study God’s word in classrooms that are brightly decorated and inviting to children. Caring teachers and assistants welcome the children, teach them from the Bible and reinforce the lesson through activities and crafts.
Children have a time of worship each Sunday morning as well. Preschoolers worship together, learning a short Bible verse and singing songs to God with lots of motion and fun! Children in K–5th grade gather in the Children’s Chapel for high-energy songs, readings from scripture and liturgical prayers that draw from our Anglican heritage.
GAP45 (God and Preteens 4th & 5th grade)
Wednesdays 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. | Archgate Center
Our fourth and fifth graders meet midweek for a time of Bible study, games and hanging out with friends. GAP45 is intentionally designed to give pre-teens a time to build relationships with Jesus, their friends and adult volunteers in a setting that is fun for tweens! Students have an opportunity to purchase pizza and drinks before playing games and having a Bible study and small group discussion. GAP45 also sponsors events such as bowling, rock climbing, movie nights and an overnight retreat.
Communion Discovery
Understanding the Eucharist is central to instructing young Christians in the Anglican tradition. Communion Discovery guides students through teachings on the liturgy, Anglican theology, the Bible and communion itself. Students also meet with members of the clergy and Altar Guild. Coming to the communion rail will be a meaningful experience as students know what the prayers, symbols, and elements of communion mean.
Communion Discovery encompasses the curriculum of 2nd grade Sunday school. In the spring, there is also a special “fast track” class for 2nd through 5th grade students who might have missed this class in Sunday school.
Special Events
Every year, Children’s Ministry hosts three special events for Christ Church families to fellowship with one another, and as an opportunity to introduce friends and family to Christ Church.
- Christmas Pageant
Children have a special opportunity to learn about the birth of Jesus by performing a traditional Christmas Pageant. Children 3 years old through 5th grade are welcome to participate. - Easter Celebration
A celebration festival held the Saturday before Easter. The Christ Church lawn is filled with games; bounce houses, face painting and crafts to celebrate Christ’s resurrection and victory over death. - Vacation Bible School (VBS)
Every June, Christ Church welcomes around 300 children and 150 adult and teen volunteers to campus to learn about Jesus in a fun, camp-like environment. High-energy music, games, crafts, and skits make the Bible come alive for children and adults alike!
For the Parents
Raising children to be disciples of Jesus Christ is a daunting task. Fortunately, you don’t have to do it alone! Christ Church Family Ministries want to encourage and equip you for your God-given task of parenting your children. Parenting Seminars are held several times a year with topics geared to help parents understand the spiritual lives of their children. Time is given during each seminar for reflection and discussion with other parents.
Volunteering in Children’s Ministry is also a great way to invest in your child’s spiritual life as well as get to know other parents at Christ Church. Opportunities range from teaching Sunday school to greeting parents and children as they arrive on Sunday mornings. Contact the Children’s Ministry staff regarding opportunities to volunteer in this important ministry!
