Preschool & Elementary

Young children need a special ministry which allows for their spiritual development as they grow physically. Their needs are best met with programming that couples Christian education with relationship. Children will be encouraged to make friends and build connections with Christian adults other than their parents.
Understandably, parents are the key Christian educator in a child’s life and therefore are encouraged to be involved, be knowledgeable of curriculum and programming, and to be an encourager to their child in his/her faith.
Sunday School
Sunday 9:15 & 11 a.m. | Archgate Center
Sunday School is taught in a traditional age-graded classroom format. The first Sunday of the month, a priest visits Sunday School and blesses every child who is celebrating a birthday in the coming month.
- Preschool
Preschoolers are encouraged to see themselves as a miraculous part of God’s perfect plan. Lessons are designed with crafts, games and stories to meet a variety of learning styles utilizing the David C. Cook curriculum. Parents are encouraged to follow up lessons with take-home pages and to assist their children in memorizing Bible verses. - Elementary
Children in Kindergarten through 5th grade experience a short liturgical worship time as part of their Sunday School class. The curriculum used by this age group is Cokesbury’s Live Big Sunday School curriculum.
GAP45 (God and Preteens 4th & 5th grade)
Wednesdays 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. | Archgate Center, Room 4208
For our 4th and 5th grade students, in addition to Sunday School, an in-depth Bible study is offered on Wednesday evening for food, fellowship, fun, games, worship and Bible teaching. There is always something for everyone. The concession stand opens at 6 p.m. with pizza, soda and snacks for sale, and kids hang out eating and playing games until the program begins at 7. GAP45 students attend several annual events, including movie nights, a lock-in and an end-of-year weekend retreat.
Communion Discovery
This special class held twice a year, is designed to give children an understanding, reverence and love for the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Through Bible readings, visuals, art, cooking, worksheets, and a meeting/tour with the Altar Guild, the Holy Spirit will touch each child. Parents are invited and encouraged to be a part of this wonderful learning experience as a teacher’s aide.
During the fall semester, Communion Discovery is incorporated into the 2nd grade Sunday School class. In the spring, a second session is offered to 2nd through 5th grade students.
Special Events
Every year, Children’s Ministry hosts three special events: a Christmas Pageant, an Easter Celebration, and Vacation Bible School.
- Christmas Pageant
Children have a special opportunity to learn about the Birth of Jesus by performing a traditional Christmas Pageant. All children are welcome to participate. Information about the Christmas pageant is distributed in Sunday School classes early in the fall semester. - Easter Celebration
Children’s Ministry hosts an annual Easter Egg Hunt on the Saturday before Easter. Local entertainers provide fun and festivity for the entire family. - Vacation Bible School (VBS)
Vacation Bible School is generally held three weeks after the end of the Plano ISD school year. Between 150 and 200 adult & teen volunteers are needed to host this special worship and educational event for the children of Christ Church and the local community. Volunteer registration begins in March, and participant registration begins in April.
For the Parents
There are two components that make our ministry so successful: God’s blessings and parent involvement. Our policy requires two adults for every Sunday School classroom, and one adult for every 8 children during VBS. Thus, we need parents who are willing to teach, care for the children and ensure a safe environment at all our ministry offerings. Contact Children’s Ministry today to see how your gifts and talents can help the children of Christ Church grow in their faith!
