Strategic Partnerships

Christ Church has developed partnerships with local social service agencies that have a proven track record of effectively serving those in need in our community. They provide expertise in their respective fields and we come along side of them providing resources and the love of Christ.

Allen Community Outreach

Allen Community Outreach (AC0) provides a variety of services for the communities of Allen, Lucas and Fairview to help individuals with rent and utilities assistance, food & clothing, job counseling and placement, meals on wheels and many others services to help those in need. Volunteer opportunities include: Care & Share, ACO Upscale Resale Store, Meals on Wheels and office assistance. Donations of used cell phones and eyeglasses are welcomed.

Regarding the ACO Upscale Resale Store:
Donations are accepted Monday – Friday between the hours of 9-4; Saturday 10-4. The ACO Upscale Resale Store accepts clothing and shoes, gently used books, housewares, toys, and furniture (that is not stained, torn, or broken). Unfortunately, due to regulations we are unable to accept large appliances, recliners, sofa sleepers, futons, mattresses or box springs.

Currently, our needs include:

  • Care & Share Closet – paper goods, personal hygiene items, soap and cleansers
  • Meals-On-Wheels volunteers
  • Prayers for our staff and newcomers

Buckner

This organization gives assistance through support of food, clothing developmental toys and medicine, including their annual Shoes for Orphan Souls Shoe Drive.

They send shoes to many countries such as: Russia, Romania, Africa, China and India. They also provide assistance to the local community. Volunteer opportunities include sorting shoes at Buckner’s warehouse.

Collin County Adult Literacy Program

This is a non-profit organization that exists to serve the literacy needs of adults in Collin County. The Council currently represents a dozen active literacy programs in Collin County. A few of their purposes are to create public awareness of the need for literacy programs; foster literacy program sponsors; financially assist the beginning and ongoing operations of literacy programs through mini-grants; and to seek cooperation and partnership with other agencies to develop centralized services which best serve the literacy needs of adults.

Volunteer opportunities include, but are not limited to, being an adult literacy tutor; grant writer and assisting at the Plano Book Festival.

C.I.T.Y. House

Collin Intervention to Youth provides shelter to Collin County youth in crisis. The teen shelter provides a 30-day emergency residential shelter for adolescents ages 10 to 17. The TRIPS program provides a transitional residence for youth ages 16-24. Scheduled to open in Fall 2009, My Friends’s House will provide emergency shelter for children ages 0-9.

Volunteer opportunities include: special projects, preparing a meal, planning a party or cookout, and yardwork.

Collin County Adult Clinic

This agency provides medical care for adults in Collin County that do not have medical insurance. Doctors and nurses in the area volunteer their time to treat these patients. The clinic is open on Thursday evenings only. Medical professionals are needed to volunteer as well as those who can do clerical work, translate and set up the clinic. Donations of diabetic strips and prescription drugs are needed.

Plano Community Homes

This organization’s purpose is to provide safe, low cost housing to seniors age 62 and up and disabled persons. The three campuses include Plano Community Home East, Pioneer Place and Plano Community Home West.

Volunteer opportunities include: coordinating special activities for residents, leading Bible study, visitations, and special projects.

Real Options for Women

This local agency provides services for women experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. Volunteer opportunities include: Prayer Team, Life Walk Team, counselors (training course required), and supporting volunteers at the clinic. Donations of maternity clothes, baby clothes and baby items are accepted.

Samaritan Inn

This is an emergency shelter for the homeless that provides a safe and clean environment including three meals a day, fresh clothing, shower and laundry facilities. They have separate dormitory style living areas for men, women and families. Volunteer opportunities include: office work, cleaning, donations, yard work and special projects throughout the year.

Samaritan Inn Thrift Center donations are accepted Tuesday – Saturday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The Thrift Center is located at 103 E. University Dr., McKinney, 75070 and accepts donations of new and used items, household goods and vintage clothing. They are unable to accept large appliances, mattresses, computers or non-working appliances.
