Thursday Prayers

Morning

Opening Sentence

Isaiah 57:15

For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.”

O Lord, open our lips;
And our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

Psalm 119

113 I hate those who have a divided heart, * but your law do I love.

114 You are my refuge and shield; * my hope is in your word.

115 Away from me, you wicked! * I will keep the commandments of my God.

116 Sustain me according to your promise, that I may live, * and let me not be disappointed in my hope.

117 Hold me up, and I shall be safe, * and my delight shall be ever in your statutes.

118 You spurn all who stray from your statutes; * their deceitfulness is in vain.

119 In your sight all the wicked of the earth are but dross; * therefore I love your decrees.

120 My flesh trembles with dread of you; * I am afraid of your judgments.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

The Third Song of Isaiah

Isaiah 60:1-3, 11a, 14c, 18-19

Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has dawned upon you. For behold, darkness covers the land; deep gloom enshrouds the peoples. But over you the Lord will rise, and his glory will appear upon you. Nations will stream to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawning. Your gates will always be open; by day or night they will never be shut. They will call you, The City of the Lord, the Zion of the Holy One of Israel. Violence will no more be heard in your land, ruin or destruction within your borders. You will call your walls, Salvation, and all your portals, Praise. The sun will no more be your light by day; by night you will not need the brightness of the moon. The Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Collect

Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our being: We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget you, but may remember that we are ever walking in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Personal Prayer

Here you may include your petitions, supplications, intercessions, and thanksgivings (1 Timothy 2:1). Pray for the world, the nation, the local community, the church, your neighbors, those who suffer, and those in any trouble.

Grace

2 Corinthians 13:14

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore. Amen.

Noon

Opening Sentence

Psalm 117

Praise the Lord, all you nations; laud him, all you peoples. For his loving‑kindness toward us is great, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Hallelujah!

O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.

Psalm 119

121 I have done what is just and right; * do not deliver me to my oppressors.

122 Be surety for your servant’s good; * let not the proud oppress me.

123 My eyes have failed from watching for your salvation * and for your righteous promise.

124 Deal with your servant according to your loving‑kindness * and teach me your statutes.

125 I am your servant; grant me understanding, * that I may know your decrees.

126 It is time for you to act, O Lord, * for they have broken your law.

127 Truly, I love your commandments * more than gold and precious stones.

128 I hold all your commandments to be right for me; * all paths of falsehood I abhor.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

Gloria in Excelsis

Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth. Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

Amen.

Collect

Father of all mercies, you revealed your boundless compassion to your apostle Saint Peter in a three-fold vision: Forgive our unbelief, we pray, and so strengthen our hearts and enkindle our zeal, that we may fervently desire the salvation of all people, and diligently labor in the extension of your kingdom; through him who gave himself for the life of the world, your Son our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Personal Prayer

Here you may include your petitions, supplications, intercessions, and thanksgivings (1 Timothy 2:1). Pray for the world, the nation, the local community, the church, your neighbors, those who suffer, and those in any trouble.

Let us bless the Lord.
     Thanks be to God.

Evening

Opening Sentence

Psalm 74:15-16

Yours is the day, O God, yours also the night; you established the moon and the sun. You fixed all the boundaries of the earth; you made both summer and winter.

Praise the Lord.
     The Lord’s name be praised.

Psalm 119

129 Your decrees are wonderful; * therefore I obey them with all my heart.

130 When your word goes forth it gives light; * it gives understanding to the simple.

131 I open my mouth and pant; * I long for your commandments.

132 Turn to me in mercy, * as you always do to those who love your Name.

133 Steady my footsteps in your word; * let no iniquity have dominion over me.

134 Rescue me from those who oppress me, * and I will keep your commandments.

135 Let your countenance shine upon your servant * and teach me your statutes.

136 My eyes shed streams of tears, * because people do not keep your law.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

Magnificat

Luke 1:46-55

My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior. For he has regarded the lowliness of his handmaiden. For behold, from now on, all generations will call me blessed. For he that is mighty has magnified me, and holy is his Name. And his mercy is on those who fear him, throughout all generations. He has shown the strength of his arm; he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He has brought down the mighty from their thrones, and has exalted the humble and meek. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent empty away. He, remembering his mercy, has helped his servant Israel, as he promised to our fathers, Abraham and his seed forever.

Amen.

Collect

O God, the life of all who live, the light of the faithful, the strength of those who labor, and the repose of the dead: We thank you for the blessings of the day that is past, and humbly ask for your protection through the coming night. Bring us in safety to the morning hours; through him who died and rose again for us, your Son our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Personal Prayer

Here you may include your petitions, supplications, intercessions, and thanksgivings (1 Timothy 2:1). Pray for the world, the nation, the local community, the church, your neighbors, those who suffer, and those in any trouble.

Grace

Romans 15:13

May the God of hope fill us with all joy and peace in believing through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Bedtime

Opening Sentence

Psalm 134

Behold now, bless the Lord, all you servants of the Lord, you that stand by night in the house of the Lord. Lift up your hands in the holy place and bless the Lord; the Lord who made heaven and earth bless you out of Zion.

Our help is in the Name of the Lord;
The maker of heaven and earth.

Psalm 119

137 You are righteous, O Lord, * and upright are your judgments.

138 You have issued your decrees * with justice and in perfect faithfulness.

139 My indignation has consumed me, * because my enemies forget your words.

140 Your word has been tested to the uttermost, * and your servant holds it dear.

141 I am small and of little account, * yet I do not forget your commandments.

142 Your justice is an everlasting justice * and your law is the truth.

143 Trouble and distress have come upon me, * yet your commandments are my delight.

144 The righteousness of your decrees is everlasting; * grant me understanding, that I may live.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love’s sake. Amen.

Nunc Dimittis

Luke 2:29-32

Guide us waking, O Lord, and guard us sleeping; that awake we may watch with Christ, and asleep we may rest in peace.

Lord, now let your servant depart in peace, according to your word. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared before the face of all people; to be a light to lighten the Gentiles, and to be the glory of your people Israel.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

Guide us waking, O Lord, and guard us sleeping; that awake we may watch with Christ, and asleep we may rest in peace.

Grace

The almighty and merciful Lord, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, bless us and keep us, this night and evermore. Amen.
